Back up

vijaykumar
Sir,

Is newgenlib ( in Pgadmin) back up enough or anything else still remains to be considered while taking the backup?

If system crashes will it be able to retrieve the vast data through newgenlib backup( in Pgadmin)?

Please kindly answer

The main backup is database backup.

If you have Patron Photos, they are stored in C:/NewGenLibFiles/PatronPhotos. Take a backup of that directory

If you have digital attachments, the digital attachments directory mentioned in your ENV_VAR.txt also must be backed up

Re: Back up

You just have to replace the Patron Photo / Digital attachmet folder of your new or current installation with the backup ones. You can either delete the folder first and paste the backup folder or just merge the 2 folders and overwrite all those w/ the same name.

I think it would be very helpful if we create a checklist of those we would want to backup in NGL:

1. pgAdmin database backup file
2. If you have patron photos: Patron Photos folder (Normally at C:\NewGenLibFiles\PatronPhotos)
3. If you uploaded attachments in your catalogs: DigitalAttachments folder (location is in ENV_VAR.txt)
4. If you have customized OPAC home page + twitter widget (C:\NGL3\apache-tomcat-6.0.32\webapps\resources\portal\web_pages\LIB_1)
5. If you have customized MARCataloging templates: MarcDictionary folder (C:\NewGenLibFiles\MarcDictionary)
6. If you have customized letter/notice templates: FormLetterTemplates folder (C:\NewGenLibFiles\FormLetterTemplates\LIB_1)
7. If you have customized map of library's areas in OPAC: Maps folder (C:\NewGenLibFiles\Maps\LIB_1)

Other files:
1. General configuration: ENV_VAR.txt (in C:\NewGenLibFiles\SystemFiles)
2. Your mail-sending configuration: mail.properties (in C:\NewGenLibFiles\SystemFiles)
3. Twitter integration: twitter.properties (in C:\NewGenLibFiles\SystemFiles)

If other users know anything else worth backing up, please tell me so we can complete this checklist. Do tell me also if there are any corrections to the above. Thank you.

Patron Photos: Take the backup of the folder C:/NewGenLibFiles/PatronPhotos
Attachments: Take the backup of the folder mentioned in your ENV_VAR.txt. The folder is mentioned against the parameter key ATTACHMENTS_PATH
If you do not find any such parameter, take a backup of C:/NewGenLibFiles/CatalogueRecords
