Custom field and custom index

nsid
Hi all,

I am sure you all know that every library has it's own local needs, especially when we are talking about cataloguing.

What I would like to ask is if we have the possibility to create a new field e.g. 9xx for our local needs and then to be able to use this as an index in both librarian's client and webopac?

If this option doesn't exist I would highly recommend to the developing team of NewGenLib to add it.

Thank you,
Nikos

Hi,
For example: You would like to define a
Tag 901: Local classification number
a: Classification number

Step 1:
Go to C:/NewGenLibFiles/MarcDictionary
Open Local_MARC_Definition.properties using Word pad
Add two entries at the bottom of the file
901=Local classification number
901.a=Classification number

Step 2:
To make the above entry as part of your data entry template add it Book.template(Or any other template file). The template files are available in C:/NewGenLibFiles/MarcDictionary

Step 3:
To make it searchable, Add entry in C:/NewGenLibFiles/SystemFiles/SearchIndexes.xml

Hi again,

For once more thank you for the instant response.

I did these steps, but the new field 901 doesn't display its subfield $a, when I call it. If I retrieve this field, then I can't see the subfield and the 901 is not stored.

Nikos

Re: Custom field and custom index

nsid
I replaced the file and these are my notices:

1) The problem still remains when I add the field using the "Add field" button. For example, I open an all ready catalogued book to add the field, but still I don't see the subfield 's not stored/saved.

2) If I use the book template I can see both the field and subfield.

The objective is to be able to add the new field even if I don't use a template, though.

Thank you,
Nikos

Re: Custom field and custom index

pedroparkero
I'd like to ask something: If I customize a local call number in field 090, and sometimes we will use 090 for special items but most of the time we will still use 050 (LC Class numbers). Will the data in our field 090 (if it exists in record) be shown alongside or instead of the LC call number in the OPAC?

Re: Custom field and custom index

Verus Open Source Support
Hi,
In this present version of the OPAC it is not possible. However in the new version of OPAC (v 3.0.5) complete customisation of OPAC will be made available. Template based OPAC will be there
