Data Migration with Barcodes

nhalib
Hi,

First time user. I'm also completely foreign to library science (had no idea what MARC21 was until 2 days ago).  Just setup a NewGenLib server for the small school which employs me.  It is much more robust than needed for my purposes but I can't complain as its free.

Exported from access, and converted to MARC21 with Delimited Text Translator.  Then got it into Notepad again and cleaned up the data to the liking of NewGenLib (replaced $ with |, removed spaced and replaced them with tabs, etc.)

This is what I've got, and it seems mostly to be working:

=LDR  00000nam a2200000Ia 45e0
=001  716
=008  130813s9999\\\\xx\\\\\\\\\\\\000\0\und\d
=020  \\$a0538497181
=020  \\$c214.00
=100  \\$aRon Larson
=245  \\$aCalculus of a Single Variable: Early Transcendental Functions; 5th ed.
=250  \\$a5th
=260  \\$bBrooks Cole$c2011
=536  \\$a214.00
=650  \\$aMath

Problem is, I thought 001 could be used to denote the unique identifying number for local inventory purposes.  For instance I might have 40 of these calculus books, numbered 716-770.  Number 723 might be gone (lost and replaced by a new book, 771).  This would be typical of my data.

I need a way of batch-loading all the unique bar code numbers of these books into NewGenLib.  Any help would be appreciated.

Respected Patron,
We saw your posting below as well as email. A few questions

As mentioned in your email, you have multiple copies for most of your titles. From your example: Title "Calculus" has 40 copies starting from 716 to 770. From the MARC record set we can see that it is in 001 Tag.
1. Do you have forty MARC records which differ in 001 Tag? And rest of all other data remaining same?
2. We can import a CSV file/XLS file of your data. Do you have the same? This way you do not have to worry about MARC
3. Even though you have duplicate records (leaving 001 tag), we can merge into a single record while importing

We apologise for the delayed response as we were closed on Aug 15th on the occasion of Indian Independence Day

NewGenLib_Book_Inventory_Export.csv

File is attached (I think?)

Thanks for your prompt response and generous offer to have a look at our export.  NewGenLib is free, and we expected no support at all.

Re: Data Migration with Barcodes

nhalib
I encountered another error that is preventing me from importing the data using NGL Workbench.  I have taken screenshots of my desktop displaying the errors.

After following the instructions on the wiki, I continue to get a 'Login Failed' error when I try to run NGL Workbench, even after I have confired that the files are adited as the wiki outlined.  The DOS prompt in the background opens but does nothing when I attempt to login.

If I take the NGLWorkbenchfiles folder out of the C: and place it on my desktop, I get a different error, presumably due to the fact it now can't find the files.

Please let me know what isn't set up correctly.
Thank you.

Did you upgrade your NGL Server recently? After you installed NGL Workbench?
or Are you using a older version of NGL and you have the latest version of NGL Workbench?
If either is the case, then use the latest version on NGL as well as the latest version of WorkBench too
