May I ask what is OpenCatalog? At the homepage of the librarian interface, we are constantly reminded of our OpenCatalog database being more than 7 days old. And when we click the link to upload, we get an "upload.jsp" file. What does it do? How do we implement this OpenCatalog system?

Hi,
OpenCatalog is a web service through which libraries can upload their catalogs to OpenCatalog. OpenCatalog will be a platform to share catalog records among libraries freely and at a later point will be extended to facilitate document sharing also. Right now we are in the process of building the union catalog. Once ready (will be done shortly) this service will be available On 10/24/2011 10:41 AM, pedroparkero [via NewGenLib] wrote: May I ask what is OpenCatalog? Ah, I see. So this is a new service and it isn't based on other old standards of free library file-sharing? And furthermore you will host the records should we choose to upload our catalog? That sounds nice. Thanks for explaining.

Good day!
What will be the format that the Open Catalog server utilize in its records? I ask because librarians who are interested in migrating are asking if they can export the MARC records they have made in NGL for safekeeping, meaning, if they can harvest their own data.

Open Catalog will host records in MARC21.
