Greetings from NewGenLib Open Source. We are happy to tell you that version 3.0.3 Update 5 released on 26th April 2012 has Android Capability. It means that your users can now access library from their Android mobile phones and tablets. We would like to introduce to you Carbon - The NewGenLib Open Source Android App. What facilities can my users access from their mobile devices? -------------------------------------------------------------- The capabilities of Carbon are 1. Search the library catalogue and view their real-time availability 2. Login into system using their registered Email Id or their user id 3. Reservations 4. Request for Check-out: This is a new feature added from this update. If an item is available in the library, the user can request to hold an item for 4 hours (Customizable from General Setup Parameters) from his mobile. This item can be checked out by the user when he/she visits the library 5. My Check-outs: View the list of all the items currently held by the user 6. Renewals: Renew the checked-out items 7. My Transaction History 8. My Reservations: List of user's current reservations and their status 9. Cancel Reservations: Users can cancel their reservations 10. My Requests for Check-out (Please see Point 4 for details) 11. Cancel a Request for Check-out 12. New Arrivals Devices supported ---------------- All devices running on Android 2.1 or above are supported. This means that all the famous Android phones/tablets like Samsumg Galaxy, Aakash 1 &2 are supported. Approximately 1,272 Android makes are supported. How much does it cost? --------------------- Carbon is absolutely free and it is honestly open source under GNU GPL license. The code of Carbon is hosted at SourceForge.net How do I enable this facility in NewGenLib? ------------------------------------------ This facility comes by default from version 3.0.3 Update 5. Hence you need not do any additional installation. How do users install Carbon on their Android Phones? ---------------------------------------------------- We have hosted Carbon - NGL Open Source on Android Market Place (Google Play). Your users can install the Application from the market place. However we have provided a link on your OPAC also. Users can click on this link to get the instructions and application link emailed to their mail box. If you are in India, then subscription id will help you to send SMS
to users, whenever a check out, check in, renewal happens

Subscription Ids are strictly issued for libraries only which are using NewGenLib as their primary ILMS. Even if you are free lancer or a Vendor and are implementing NGL for an organization as a primary ILMS then that organization details must be given. Subscription Id is only used SMS service and not for any other purpose. If you do not want SMS service the do not worry about the subscription id.
