When I searched through Acquisition>Search by Title> the result is not match with the result getting through OPAC. I mean to say in the first search I got two hits with different numbers of books with same title where as...
In case of searching through OPAC out of two records one one record has been retrieved. Where is another one? In case of searching through Clint machine gives different result. Let me explain: 1. Through Acquisition>Search by Title> = Two hits (Same title and same author) 2. Through OPAC = Single hits (Same title and same author) 3. Through Clint machine = Single hits (Same title and same author) not same as above. I know the question is very complicated to understand/explain. Plz. guide me. |

I am also having a problem in search. When I search by title with keyword "Photo", I get "photography", "photodraw", but never "photoshop", which is what I recently cataloged. When I do the freetext search, the "Photoshop" book comes up, but the "photography" book is gone. Strange behavior when I am expecting that a freetext search will have more results than a title search.

Ok. We see the problem. Need some time to simulate and check the
behaviour of Solr.

Okay. I'm eager eager to hear the result. :-)
But while we're at it, may I suggest something? Why not make freetext search the default search in OPAC? It's easier to search that way. If people would like to limit their searches, then they just go to basic search or advanced search. But in my opinion, most users initially don't think of searching only by title or author, etc. They just type what comes into mind. Only if they get too many results that they start to limit it by fields.

Good day!
I don't know if this is already registered as an issue in OPAC, but most of the time, a free text search of {keywords in title + author surname} doesn't show any result, when we know there's already an existing record (doesn't the free text mode search both the title and the author tags?). Also, a free text search of "word1 word2" has completely different results compared to the search "word2 word1" (It will be either no results found on the first one but the 2nd has results or vice versa). I was expecting that a free text search does not depend on the order of the keywords typed. If this is the normal behavior, then the Basic search by "Title" or "Author" is more reliable. (And indeed, it is what we usually use now, but we really want the old capabilities of Free Text mode back, wherein it searches in any field.)

Am trying to understand this query better through an example.
Title: 101 things I learned in business school Author: Preis, Michael W. In Free Text Search you should be able to retrieve results by querying preis business school Michael business preis 101 things (or such combinations) Please confirm this On 12/07/2011 08:01 PM, pedroparkero [via NewGenLib] wrote: Good day!

Okay, my actual example is:
English language learning and technology : lectures on applied linguistics in the age of information and communication technology / Carol A. Chapelle. A query of... "chapelle learning technology" - gives no results "carol language" - gives no results "lectures chapelle" - gives no results "chapelle english language" or just "chapelle english" - gives no results "english language technology" or "english learning technology" - gives no results [this is without the quotes, of course] although a free text search of "chapelle" gives a positive match, also "applied linguistics" [but not "linguistics applied"], "information communication" [but not "communication information"], "learning language" & "language learning" are also positive in giving a hit.

Its clear now.
We have now rectified this issue. The next update will have this fix On 12/09/2011 01:16 PM, pedroparkero [via NewGenLib] wrote: Okay, my actual example is:

That's great. Thank you.
Also, I noticed a basic author search must be given surname first and not "Forename Surname" if it's a "See" entry, or else there wouldn't be any hits. For example, if "John Doe" is also known as "Joe Doe", "Doe, Joe" is a "See" entry of the authorized record "Doe, John". Now if I search "Joe Doe" in the OPAC, there wouldn't be any results, as currently only "Doe Joe" will give access to the records of John Doe. Now, should I give an additional "Joe Doe" See entry aside from "Doe, Joe" so users can access it by typing "Forename Surname" or are you planning to also modify this in the next update?

Good day! I think I found an irregularity in the opac search. If I search "Nicolaides" in the Basic Search -> Author, a hit with the author "Nicolaïdes" is found. But if I search it in free text, it is not found. I suppose the Basic Author search can interchange "i" with "ï" but the free text cannot?

We will test the same and get back to you

Also, I have a book on clichés, and it can't be found by either type of search just by typing "cliche". Should I provide a "Varying form of title" tag with "cliche" so it can be searched in the OPAC without having to enter the accented character 'é'?

Hi,
Solr Index can be customised with a latin character based analyser. This will solve the below mentioned problem. However this is advised only if you have a considerable number of bibliographic records with this issue. Follow the below steps 1. Close your tomcat server 2. In your /NGL3/Bibliographic_Solr/conf place the attached schema.xml (This will replace your old schema.xml) 3. Extract the attached lib.zip into /NGL3/Bibliographic_Solr directory (Now you should be able to see a new directory lib in /NGL3/Bibliographic_Solr) 4. Start Tomcat server 5. Reindex(In InstallNGL3.0 Directory you will find a file named BuildIndex.bat. Double click on it. It will reindex Solr) On 02/23/2012 09:07 AM, pedroparkero [via NewGenLib] wrote: Also, I have a book on clichés, and it can't be found by either type of search just by typing "cliche". I've used NGL303_To_303U3\NGLIndexer\RunIndex.bat yesterday (I still haven't found the record by searching "cliche") but now I have realized I have a InstallNGL303 folder where BuildIndex.bat is, so after following the instructions I double-clicked it but it only opened for about a second and it automatically closed on me (but the message is: build successful or something like that).
Anyway, I still can't find the record using search term "cliche". Did I do something wrong? But the good news is, I can now search "nicolaides" in free text search and get a hit.
