1. Include Call number or classification of the book in different areas in librarian interface and reports (e.g. search loan status of an item, items held by the patron, circulation report)
2. To have an option in entering patron id or patron name when checking out books. 3. To have an inventory module 4. In OPAC, include the date due of the book in its status if the book is check out. |
I agree with your first 2 suggestions. There is an inventory module in NGL Destop application and you can see the due date of a checked out book if you click the "Availability: View Details" link in the OPAC results. But I don't think you can see it when you are in the "full record" view of the catalog, so I am suggesting that the link be also integrated there.

Hi,
OPAC is being completely revamped with a newer template engine called Free marker. OPAC will have more functionalities and also flexibility for complete customization. This requirements will be handled in the update dedicated for OPAC Thanks and Regards Siddartha On Tuesday 31 January 2012 07:53 AM, pedroparkero [via NewGenLib] wrote: I agree with your first 2 suggestions. I was talking about a different kind of inventory.
I used a system in my former school where there was an "Inventory" option. I'll click the inventory tab and select "Start Inventory". It will then give a list of all items, then I will start scanning the barcodes all the items, after that, I will click "Finish Inventory" and it will give a list of all items that was missed during the scanning of barcode. This is only a suggestion, specially for big libraries. Thank you. |

Thank you for the information. Looking forward to a more customizable OPAC as I have some note fields I wish to display that are not displayed in the 'Full Record' view.

Hi,
The Stock Verification functionality works in the same way 1. Scan all the barcodes present in the library (or even import them as a batch from the file) 2. Select a directory of generating report and click on Generate report. This generates the report of the Stock verification On Thursday 02 February 2012 05:34 AM, mavicsilva [via NewGenLib] wrote: I was talking about a different kind of inventory.

Good day!
May I suggest that the "search loan status of item" be integrated in the "search catalogue" module in the librarian interface? I think that it would save time. Consider a situation where a patron asks a librarian if a certain item is in the library collection. The librarian searches in the "search catalog". If a search result is positive, the patron may ask if it is available or, if it is currently on loan, when it will be returned. Currently, to determine this the librarian will first have to start a new module ("search loan status of item"), wherein he will search again the item that he searched a while ago to answer the query. It would be good if for instance, there is another button beside the "update holdings" button in the search catalogue module that will display the availability (and the due dates if on loan) of the selected item. I am aware that we can see the availability if we click the "view details" button and click the link "view holdings", but it doesn't show the due date. It would be great if instead of "checked out", it would display the expected return of the item, like how it is displayed in the "search loan status of item" module.

Respected Sir,
Greetings from NewGenLib Open Source. The reason we separated the "Search loan status of Item" to queries is The staff of library assigned to handle queries will get this functionality and that personnel do not have to get access to technical processing module. Oh, okay. I understand. But we can still retain the separate module but in the same time also integrate the information in the search catalog module. Like I said, since some of the info are already available in the 'click to view holdings' in the "View Details" button, one way to further improve it is just add the due date when the item is checked out. That way, there is an alternate method to access that information when a patron asks the librarian.
