Greetings,
I have some issues with languages in NGL. I am using NGL 3.0.4
Carbon release 2 update 1, and Debian Squeeze, and jdk1.7.0_40.
1) I can see 15 languages in a drop-down menu in OPAC, but
whichever language I choose, all the text stays in English. The
screen just reloads, but nothing happens. What should I do to make
the opac language menu work correctly?
For testing purposes I added the line DEFAULT_OPAC_LANGUAGE=fr_FR
to the file /usr/NewGenLibFiles/SystemFiles/ENV_VAR.txt, and
restarted server and OPAC. It turned out that the language was
changed to French, as expected, but still I cannot change language
from the drop-down menu in opac.
2) I found that actually the French interface is a mixture of
French and Spanish. I hope the NGL team could have the French
language file OpacLabels_fr_FR.properties checked and corrected
for the next version. I am not fluent enough in French to be able
to correct this language file adequately.)
3) Based on some messages on the forum I gather that the
additional language packs should be requested separately. Finnish
language is mentioned among the languages supported, so could you
send me Finnish files for both OPAC and librarian's interface,
please - or at least for opac, if Finnish is not available for
both interfaces.
4) The language drop-down menu in OPAC shows the language and
country names mostly (but not all) in Finnish - I suppose it is
because my OS locale setting is Finnish. Is it possible to edit
how each language is shown on the list? I think it would be
better, if each language name were shown in that particular
language (English, español, Français, 日本語 etc.) instead of showing
all the language names in the language set in operating system's
locale settings (eg. if locale is English -> English, Spanish,
French, Japanese etc.).
5) I would like to suggest that you make all the available
language packs readily downloadable by anybody (e.g. on http://www.verussolutions.biz/web/content/language-support or
in some other convenient location). That could encourage NGL users
test language packs, and help make them better.
Moreover, it would be great if the translations were managed with
Pootle or some other translation project tool. I think that could
encourage people participate in localization efforts even more.
With best wishes,
Samu Virokannas
