NewGenLib 3.0.3 Update 3 is now released

Dear Patron:

Greetings from NewGenLib Open Source. As promised the NewGenLib Team has now released Update 3 of NewGenLib 3.0.3. This is a part of our commitment to release a new update once in every 6 weeks.

What's new in this update?
------------------------------------
- New feature: Twitter integration - NewGenLib is now integrated with Twitter. You can send tweets which are published on OPAC home page. System also send direct messages to user's Twitter accounts.
- New feature: Recording reference material usage - System now records the reference material used. This will help you to identify reference material that are heavily used
- New feature: Users can now define new arrivals period - In OPAC users can now define custom number of days and retrieve new arrivals during that period.
- New feature: In OPAC, if you click on the book cover, the book cover's image is shown in original dimensions of the image
- New feature: In librarian interface, at the time of "Update holdings", each barcode's individual status is now shown
- New feature: In librarian interface, Search Patron screen, each Patron's membership status as well as their delinquency status is now shown
- New feature: In librarian interface, at the time of importing cataloguing records by default the local tags (9XX) are filtered out. You may remove the filter also
- New feature: Authority data exact search - In librarian interface, in Search Catalog you can now search authority data and retrieve all catalog records related to that authority entry.
- New feature: In librarian interface, Administration->Configure System-> Authority files search. Catalog records count associated with each of the authority entry is now shown. Also you can right click on a particular authority entry and view the associated catalog records.
- Bug fixed: Upload of attachments now works on ports other than 8080
- Bug fixed: Series name index is now fixed
- Bug fixed: Author/Subject/Uniform title browse, see term search is fixed
- Bug fixed: Free text search in OPAC
- Bug fixed: While creating/editing barcodes, vendor names list is now sorted alphabetically
- Bug fixed: Book covers are now visible in other view also in OPAC

If I already have NGL 3.0 installed, what should be the value of this parameter: restore.database=original

NGL 3.0.3 config.ini has "blank" as the value, but tutorial has "original" as the value.

Leave it as blank
And run upgrade.bat NOT install.bat
Upgrade.bat ignores that parameter

Sudo chmod 777 /usr/Indexer -R

Thank you,  it got built successfully. I used: sudo chown myuser:myuser -R /usr/Indexer I did this just for security (as I have a few hundred shell users on our server). The installation script tries to go into /usr/NewGenLibFiles directory as well. So I changed permissions on that directory as well. My NGL3.0 directory is owned by a less previleged user. But NGL generates newgenlibctxt directory in webapps dir with root permissions. Any idea why it is so?

From this update NGL Stores the Indexer build into /usr drive in linux and C: drive in Windows. This is done because, if the library want to reindex the Solr database, it can be done easily. Also the installation file can deleted/moved after successful installation.
Now, the /usr directory must have a folder named Indexer. Since you can only create a directory in /usr as root. However the build is being run not as a root but as logged in user. Now the build cannot copy Indexing files into /usr/indexer directory. Hence you are giving read/write permissions.

A patron whose membership has expired cannot be searched in the 'verify patron details' module. Is this deliberate? Because I think the old version searches all patrons, whether expired or not.

Hey, I forgot to thank Verus Solutions Support team for this New Year gift. A cool update. I enjoyed following the instructions on how to integrate twitter to the OPAC & the Librarian interface. Although I would have preferred that there would just be a "My Account" link in OPAC where you can save or edit your twitter username (and change your password or other details too) instead of every page in the OPAC showing your twitter handle.

Also, does the twitter integration work if the patron's account is private (protected tweets)? I'm testing my private account, and although I have already followed our library's twitter profile, when I check out using the library admin account (which is different from my library staff account), I keep getting a 'critical error'.

We are glad to see this posting. Yes, we accept that the Twitter handle must be in "Personal details" of "My Library". However we felt that the users(students) must be made aware of this feature. We will check the problem mentioned today and simulate the problem locally.

Is the "Active" in the Status column in Configure system->Search Patron the same as the "A" in Type column in Verify patron details? Because there are students who are registered "Active" in status when you look at Patron Search but the letter in their type is "B" when verifying details.

Pardon me for the slight confusion here. In the "Verify patron details", the "Type" you are seeing in the table either has value "A" or "B"
"A" means Staff of library
"B" means any other user(General).

Also, I think the overdue calculation in this version has changed and is short of one day. For example, if a book is overdue for one day, there is no overdue fine. Or if it was supposed to be returned on Jan. 3, and returned on Jan. 7, and the overdue fine is 2/day, in the check-in module, the patron's overdue is only 6 when it should be 4x2=8.

We will change the "Verify Patron" in line with "Search Patron". You will get this in the next update.
We will also check the Over due calculation. We will release a nightly build accordingly.
